Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do we get our website on page one of
Google ?
A. By far the main search engine in the UK today is Google. Firstly, we need
to choose the keywords that people will type into Google to find your
products or services. It is better to find 'niche' keywords as much as
possible.
For example, the
phrase 'kitchen sinks' will have an enormous amount of competition from
other website owners throughout the UK. But, if
you choose a keyword like 'blanco kitchen sinks' (a sinks brand name), fewer
people will search this term but it will be more likely Google will place your
website on page
one results.
Keywords with a local word such as 'stockport kitchens' or 'builders
macclesfield' are also niche keywords. Fewer people search using niche
keywords but you are much more likely to be on page one of Google's
search results - and 90% of people don't look past the first page of
Googles's search results.
Q. How much will my website cost?
A. How long is a piece of string ? Typically my clients
invest between £300 and £650 in an individually designed website depending
on how much work is involved. Mobile phone, tablets and ipad versions are
included as standard as is optimisation of your website for Google. Picture galleries
or a content management system may typically add to the price of your investment.
Once your website has been designed and built, there is an ongoing cost of
£20 - £30 per month to cover the cost of 'Managed Hosting' for your website, the cost of
renewing your domain name when due, minor occasional changes to your
website that you may need, email accounts as required and telephone or email support for your
website. Basically I look after everything to do with your website enabling
you to get on with your business. The price can also include ongoing
optimisation for Google to find your website - and I would aim to get it on
Page one of it's search results !
Q. Can you design us a website that we can
manage and change ourselves?
A. Yes I can, but it is important that your website is professionally
designed in the first place. I build WordPress websites as 'content
management systems' (CMS) which enables you to add your own updates. Whether it's simply updating
an area of a page, changing whole pages, uploading pictures, maintaining
listings or presenting news articles. Please note that unless you plan to
use the CMS system on a regular basis it is usually easier and cheaper to
just email me the odd updates that you require.
